CABLE REVENUE.

FEDERAL HIGH COURT JUDGMENT.

Received September 29,10.40 a.m. MELBOURNE, September 29. The Federal High Court, in a special case stated, awarded the Eastern Extension Company £633 against the Commonwealth Government, the amount being the difference in minimum revenue and the amount received by the company for messages transmitted over the cable between Tasmania and Victoria. The court held that the Commonwealth was not empowered under the agreement made with the company in 1902 to redjce the cost of the cables, an Order-in-Council to that effect being imperative, and that it was bound to pay the rates fixed until; they were lawfully reduced. It was also bound to pay the company in respect to shipping intelligence transmitted, until the agreement was lawfully terminated.
