AN UGLY INCIDENT.
TROUBLE OVER DESERTERS. Received September 28, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, September 28. An ugly incident occurred at Casablanca, where recently two hundred soliiers of the Foreign Legation deserted. The Gendarmes saw five soldiers whom they recognised as deserters brought to 'he by the teuetary of the German Consulate and a Moorish horseman in the e.nploy of the Consul. When about to enter a boat to embarrt on a Hamburg steamer, the GenHarmss arrested the deserters. The horseman then interfered, and they arrested him, bat later liberated mm. German accounts state that the French harbour captain pointed a revolver at the Secretary of the German Consulate and fiercely assaulted the horseman. The "Cologne Gazette" insists on firm action being taken Bincj the Gendarmes conduct was absolutely illegal. The French Press a3sert that several of the deserters were not Germans.
