The daath is announced at Te Arolia •of Mr Henry Montgomery Salmon, father .of Mr H. Salmon, clerk of the ,; S.M. Court, Carterton. At the time hia death Mr Salmon was 81 years of age. He was well-known as one of the oldest settlers in the Waikato. Mr A. D. M'Leod, of Martinbor--ough, who has been Jri" a trip to Great Britain, is expected back in New "Zealand about October 12th. It is understood that while in England, Mr M'Leod closely studied the methods *of local politics iii their relation to municipalities and counties. • Mr, N. C. Marshall was presented """with a purse of sovereigns from the numbers of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. • M Saturday evening. The presentation was made by Mr A. G. CrawKtrd, who spoke feelingly of the high esteem in which the recipient was .*" held, and of the very valuable assistance he had rendered to the Association from its founding in Masterton. Various other speakers made eulogistic reference to Mr Marshall's ■• character and energy, and wished him success in his new home.. Mr Marshall, who will leave for 'Auckland to-day; duly responded. The Rev. John Treharna Phillips, - whom Bishop Wnilis has elected as the .new vicar of Tenui, was educated at the University College, Cardiff, and University of London. He was ordained deacon in 1893, and priest in 1894, and has held the following appointments :--Curate of Beaufort, Monmouthshire, 1893 95; Handley, Wiltshire, 1896-99; Presteigne, 189911900; Leominster. 1900-04; Wychbold (dioce3e of Worcester), IUOS. The Rev.' , Arthur Tho;«as Bristed Page, the new vicar ot GreytownFeather3ton, was a scholar of King's College, London, received deacon's •order? in 1892, and those of priest .--the following year. He was in turn curate of Castle Hedingham (18921895), St. Mark's, Portsea (18951903), and Penistone, in the diocese -Of Wakefield, ISO 3. The Rev. Ernest Ironmonger Sola, appointed to the 'Charge of Bulis-Sandon-Greatford, was at Sarum Theological College in 1901, was ordained deacon in 1902, and priest in 1903. In 1905 he was f pointed curate of St. Alban, The jrtyrs', Westcliff-on-Sea, St. Alh's diocese. Before that he was »curate of St John Evangelist's, East iOulwich, 1902*05.
