COMMONWEALTH AND STATES. Received September 24. 10.26 a.m. SYDNEY, September 24. The Legislative Assembly adopted the resolutions of the Premiers' Conference by 43 votes to 23.
The resolutions bear on the financial relations of the States and the Commonwealth. In moving their adoption by the Mew South Wales Parliament, Mr Wade, the Premier, remarked that one of the moat critical periods in the history of States and Commonwealth had been reached. RIFLE SHOOTING. Received September 24, 10.26 a.m. 1 ADELAIDE, September 24. At the Rifle Association meeting, the King's Prize was won by Rutter, Victorian (260) beating Hyde, of Que?nsland, —who tied with him —in the shoot-off. PREFERENTIAL TRADE. Received Septernber ; 24, 9.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, September 24. The Government representative in the Senate stated that the Government had not abandoned the intention to introduce measures to secure preferential trade with New Zealand and Canada. Negotiations with both countries will be resumed when the congestion of public business is relieved. NEW SOUTH WALES BUDGET. Received September 25, 12.40 a.m. SYDNEY, September 24. The Treasurer's Budget Statement shows the revenue for the past year to, have been £15,467,000, and the expenditure £13,790,000. The estimated revenue for the coming year is £14,753,000, and the expenditure £14,442,000. A surplus of £300,000 is expected. The State would receive £600,000 less from the Commonwealth this year than last year when they received three millions. Railways l*\st year returned interest at the rate of £4 10s 10d, ! yielding a surplus of £671,000. HIDE SALES. Received September 25, 12.25 a.m. MELBOURNE, September 24. At the hide sales there waß good competition. Prices are unchanged.
