ALBERTI'S FRAUDS.
QUESTION OF LIABILITY. PROBABLE RUIN OF SMALL FARMERS. Received September 23, 8.35 a.m. LONDON, September 22. M. Alberti, the Danish ex-Minster, embezzled £605,000 from the Zealand Peasants' Savings Bank. His forgeries on the" Butter Association represent £225,000. The "D.;ily Mail" states that it is understood that Messrs Wilier and Riley's losses represert a minor portion of the latter amount, and that they are apparently recoverable from the association, who can recover from the farmers. The "Butter Trade Journal, " published in Copenhagen, states that fifty-two j dairies are liable to pay £5,000 each. This may ruin small farmers, who had no idea that they had any responsibility after receiving payment for their milk.
