OBITUARY .
MR T. E. CHAMBERLAIN.
An old and prominent settler of Masterton, though latterly a resident in Wanganui, in the person of Mr T. E. Chamberlain, passed away on Mnoday at his home. The late Mr Chamberlain was a native of the Dominion, being burn at Karori sixty-one years ago. He was educated at Wellington, at Mr Toomath's Grammar School, and at the age of eighteen came to Masterton and took up farming on "The Oaks" estate, Upper Plain. Here Mr Chamberlain lived until very recently, also taking up and farminr two hundred and fiity acres at Mild Miki. At one time he was prominent in municipal affairs in the town, being, elected several times to the office of Borough Councillor. He was also a member of the old Masterton Koad Board, and also of the Licensing Committee. Other prominent posi tions lie occupied were President of the Masterto;i-Opaki Jockey Club, Vice-President of the A. and P. i Association, and Chairman of the ! IJpper Plain Irrigation Boarl In ; 13>*5 he married a daughter of Mr jib'. McrLachlan, of Opaki, and his 1 family consists' of seven sons and tihr«o daughters. The deceased gentleman, who had been laid aside for some time past with the painful illness which caused' his death, was very highly respected,, and the news of his death' will 1 be received with very general regret.
MRS S. KINGDOM.
Another old and esteemed resident of Masterton died yesterday morning, when Mrs Eliza E. Kingdon,. wife of Mr S. Kingdon, a well-known towns*man, succumbed to a lingering' il«l neas. The deceased lady was a native of Plymouth, England, where she was born in 1846. She arrived itt Masterton thirty years ago, and' has resided here continuously since. Mr Kingdon and family will have universal sympathy in their loss. Three grown up suns and two daughters comprise the family. Mrs Kingdon will be interred at Masterton Cemetery tn-morrovv afternoon, the funeral leaving at 2.30 o'clock.
