HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cabla from the High Commistionei, da,trfd London, 19th September, 1 ( JU8: Trade for all classes of mutton ha 3 been very slow, and prices are barely maintained. The tendency of the market aeems to be to decline. Riv<r Plate mutton is in large supply and is quoted at 3£d p«?r 10. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 4Jd, and North Island at 3Jd per lb. The lamb market is dull, except for light-weights. Canterbury) is quoted atsJd, ard other than Canterbury at 5d per lb. The beef market ia steady. Hindquarters are qpoted at, 4|d, forequaiters at 3Jd per Id. The butter market is firm, with an improved demand for best quality, the supply of which is running short. The following are the current quotations: Choicest New Zealand, 116s; Argentine,,this season's, 116s; Danish, 1239 per uwt. The ctieese market is quiet, but Fh ady, Canadian brands being quoted at 61s per cwt. The hamp market is lifeless, and there is no change in prices to report. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 21,000 bales. The wool market is quien, with a tendency in favour of buyers. The following are the current\quotations for Bradford TopH:—36's 16w crossbreds, 9|l, 40'fl ditto, ditto', 10£ d, 44's medium ditto lljd, 50' a halfbreds Is 3£d, 56' a quarter-breds Is 6d, 60's merinos Is lid. There has been no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market since last wee*. Bright clean 17lb seed, last j season's, is quoted at 75s per cwt.
