ANNUAL HORSE PARADE,
The annual horse parade unier the auspices of the above Association was hi Id at Carterton on Saturday afternoon. The entry, however, was a imfcll one, or.ly eleven stallions being ratalogued. Breeders too, were con-, spiiuoua by their absence. It is maintained, rightly or wrongly, that tie Parade is held too early, but as the Association makes nothing out of the parades, and simply btudits the interests of owners in holding them, it is somewhat discouraging to have to record a small entrance. Five thoroughbreds, four craughts, one trotting, and one pony itailion were catalogued. THOROUGHBREDS. BORIS, By Stepniak-Shepherdess.- Is a powerful dark chestnut horse, standing about ]6 hands, whose breeding and performances are of such merit that comment is almost needless. He won in the best of company over all distances, earning close on £3OOO, in stakes. During the past eight seasons Stepniak's progeny have won over £58,000 in stakes. Boris' list 10 rapidly rilling. He is owned by Mr W. C<irlett, Carterton, and is in ira°nificent condition. CONQUEROR, Medullion—Siesta, was bred by the G. G. Stead, and is admitted to be one ot the finest and iriott com--11 anding thoroughbred stallions in the Lominion. He has never been beatin in tiie Show ring, having taken twelve first prizes and eleven championships. During his short racing career he put up some very meritorous performances. A glance at his pedigree will show that it contains the blood of two of the greatest Of colonial sires—Musket ana 'i'raducer. Conqueror has sired some lunliant horses. Mr McCullough, owner, reports that his list is practually filled for the season. CHATSWORTH. The imported thoroughbred sira Chmsworth is announced in another column to be at the service of breedera thi3 season. Chatsworth is a member of the No. 3 family, dam of the Two True Blues, which the late Bruce Lowe speaks so highly of in his work on breeding of racehorses by the figure' system. Chataworth's sire, Auric, is by Bill of Portland, son of St. Simon. Chatsworth is a direct descendant of the two most successful performers and sires of winners that the world has ever known—viz., Stockwell and St.. Simon, the latter never being beaten. He was proved to be very fast, having started as a two-year old (being first favourite) in the Debutant Stakes, in which he finished fourth in a good field of two-year-olds. He was then reserved iuv u,ti iwelDournp Cup of 1905, but, unfortunately, met with an accice.it, which prevented Chatsworth's, true value as a racehoisj ever being known. Mr R. Koss, Tauherenikau, Is the owner. CANADA. Canada is a chestnut horse, foaled 1902, Finland-Alumini. His, sire, Finland, by Bill of Portland i (son of St. Simon) from Fishwife, an excellent performer, and dam of Heretic. Canada himself was proved to be very fast, but unfortunately met with an accident when just ready to race, and really never had a chance, although he won three races early in the season. He is a beautifully made horse, with a great set of legs, and is up to the breeder's ideal in size. Mr R. Ross, of Tauherenikau, ia the owner. , SARACEN, 1 By St. George—Fair Nell, who is wtll-known to breeders of thoroughbreds throughout the district, also paraded. TROTTERS. j Mr S. Liddington's "Boston" was the only trcjtting stallion shown. He is an upstanding horse, big boned, j well topped, and one calculated to sire a good class of horses for general utility puipusts. PONIES. Young King Cobb (King Cobb— Prince Albert mare) was the only representative in this class, but he is certainly one of the best. He has sired some splendid ttock, is as quiet | as a sheep and staunch throughout. He is owned by Mr G. Sowman, of Masterton, from whom all iar.iculars may be oLtained. DRAUGHTS. BRILLIANT BOY. This horse is in splsndid condition and looked very well. He was bred by Mr W. F. Buckland, of Christchurch, and is by the far-famed Clydesdale, The - Mackenzie—Kate. He shows excellent quality, combined with great power. He had splendid flat bone, and an abundance of silky hair of the class now so much sought for in draughts. Brilliant Boy is I leaving first-rate stock in this dk- j trict, and Mr R. Falloon, owner, j intends placing him at the service of breeders here again this season. FEDERATION.
