DRIVING THEM OUT.
It is stated that vessels which have for many years been trading between Auckland and Niue are being driven out of the trade by other vessels, mostly manned by Chinese, and with not more than one certificated officer on hoard. Mr Massey, Leader of the Opposition, is asking the Minister in charge of the Cook and other islands whether he will see that vessels owned in other countries and trading to Niue are compelled to comply with oar shipping laws and regulations in the same way as vessels owned in New Zealand which trade to the Islands.
