APPOINTMENT OF STATE GOVERNORS.
PRESS COMMENT. Received September 18, 8.30 a.m. LONDON, September 17, The "Standard," replying to the South Australian Government memorandum to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, with reference to the appointment of State Governors, says: —"The highest offices are already open to all citizens, with one apparent exct'ption, which is outside the State and outside the range of political controversy. It ha 4* long been customary to consult each oversea Ministry regarding the acceptability of a proposed Governor, and in more than one instance the original choice has been altered."
