PALMERSTON NORTH SUPREME COURT.

PAPWORTH v. HOROWHENUA PUBLISHING COMPANY. By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSfON N., September 17. The case of Papworth v. Horowhenua Publishing Co., was concluded at the Supreme Court before Mr Justice Chapman to-day. The case had extended over three days, and a very large amount.of evidence was taken. Mr Myers appeared for the plaintiff and Mr Findlay for the defendant. The claim, was for £827 6s for wrongful dismissal, and was made up of £SOO for; damages, £177 for wages owing, and £l5O for monies lent. The two latter amounts were admitted and paid into Court. For plaintiff it was claimed (that he had been engaged as manager, editor and reporter of the "Manawatu Fanner" at Levin, and had carried out his duties thoroughly. He had been dismissed without any reason having been given. A large amount of evidence was given as to the capability of the plaintiff for the position. v The defence set out that plaintiff had not kept to the terms of his contract. The jury returned a verdict for plaintiff for £225 damages, and His Honor gave judgment accordingly. Mr Findlay applied for a new trial, and His Honor said he would allow seven days for arrangements to be made as to security.
