A CASE OF HARDSHIP.
A man who is about 80 years of age, and has been a servant of the Invercargill Borough Council for 26 yearr, en Thursday evening tendered the Borough Council his resignation, as he had recently been to some extent incapacitated by an injury. The Mayor "explained that this was an instance of some hardship. The man was by age and length of residence in the Dcminion entitled to the ol J ~.Z& pension, but he had stuck to hL work as long as possible, and the wages received by him from the Council last year made him ineligible for the old-age pension this year. Now that ha had to give up work he had to wait for a year before he could get the pension. He had no mo iey, and how was he to be kept going during the' year? The Mayor thought that tho matter should be referred to the Works Committee, and that the committee should make some representation to tie Government on such cases. It, was really a case that affected a great many men. The matter was eventually referred to the Works Committee .to make investigations and report.
