MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held on Saturday afternoon. There were present—Messrs D. McGregor, junr (president). G? Harper, J. C. McKillop, R. J. Dagg, Bland Rayner, G. C. Summerell, W. D. Watson, J. D. Cruickshank, W. Cooper, A. J. Stone-Wigg, J. P. Perry, Jos. Morris, G. Shaw, A. J. MatA. G. Pilmer, T. P. Lett, A. J. Percy, H. Morrison, J. Strang, O. Cooper, W. Perry, W. J. Welch. Letters of thanks for the Association's vote of condolence were received from various members of the family of the late Mr W. E. A. Slack. The recommendation of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, that Mr J. C. N. Grigg, of Loncbeach, represent the A. and P. Associations of the Dominion on a Coonfererice in reference to the Flour and Other Products Monopoly Prevention Bill, was endorsed. Mr A. D. McMaster wrote stating that he would shortly be compelled to leave on a six months' visit to England.—it was decided to grant Mr McMaster leave of absence during his trip. The Chief Goverment Veterinarian (Mr J. A. Gilruth) wrote heartily thanking the Association for its resolution regarding his services to the '.Dominion. A letter from the Masterton South Brass Band, in reference to the calling of tenders for the supply of music to the next Show, was held over. Mr J. Sweeney wrote thanking the Association for appointing him representative at Pabiatua, and promising to do his utmost to promote the Association's irtterests. A letter was read from the Secre tary of the Auckland A. and P. Association covering a reply from the Minister cf Railways, stating that every effort was being' made to have the Main Trunk line ready in- time to allow exhibits from the sjuth tj be taken to the Auckland Show. A special meeting, held on Sep tember 3rd, recommended the preparation of a preliminary Sho,v Schedule by a special meeting on Saturday. This committee met and partly 'discussed the matter. It was decided to grant the Borough Council permission to take a , pipe line throi gh a cori.er of the grounds, for draining the public baths, the same to remain during the pleasure of the Association. A letter \Vas read from Mr J. C. Monro, F.N.Z.La., re new buildings on Solway.—The letter was held owr. ■ , On the motion of Mr Watson it was cbcided to hold over discussion of Mr J. M. Johnston's plans fur the improvement of Solway until the next meeting, the Ground Committee to report in the meantime. It waa decided to procure six sets of views of Solway grounds from Mr A. E. Winzenberg. the views to be forwarded to various illustrated weekly paptrs. On the motion of the Chairman it j was decided to thank Mr J. M. I Johnston very heartily for the work ] he did on behalf of the Association in connection with the laying out of Solway, and to recommend the annual, meeting to make Mr Johntson a life , . member. The Chairman moved that the Committee heartily protests against the Shearers Accommodation Bill, and asks the members for Masterton and Wairarapa to oppose it,in the House. The Bill was r.ad to the meeting, and after general adverse criticism the motion was c.rried . unanimoubly. I The following new members were elcsced" —Messrs A. J. McLean, J Jackson Bros., G. I Riddifud. j Mr W.i Perry that he hxjght ( the Association , should send a letter of appreciation to Messrs Joief, Evans, and Aclana, who conducted the fight on behalf of Canterbury farmers against the Farm Labourers' Union. Mr Perry said that though the fight was ostensibly made on behalf of the Canterbury farmers only, it was really in the interests of the farming community of the whole of the Dominion. The Chairman endorsed Mr Perry's remarks, and it was resolved unanimously to adopt Mr Perry's suggestion. I FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee met in the morning. There were presentMessrs G. C. S.imrnerell (chairman), W. Perry, D. McGregor, junr., J. B. Moodie, J. D. Cruickshank, and H. Morrison. A request for a refund of the amount paid by the Masterton Fire *lirigade for the use of the Showgrounds on August 24th, on the occasion of the benefit football match in aid of the Hospital, was held over pending further information being obtained. A similar request from the Friendly Societies' Council was regretfully reported against. The receipt was acknowledged of the sum of £7O from the National Fire office, on account of the damage by fire to the produce shed building. The treasurer reported Payment?, (including ,£4,718 for purchase of Solway grounds),£4,9Bl 18s (3d; receipts, £3Bl 6s 2d; dr balance, as per pass-bojlt, £5,017 193 4d.
