THE WATER RATE.

SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. MATTER TO BE DISCUSSED. The following circular was issued yesterday by the Town Clerk (Mr W. T. Mansfield), to the members of the Masterton Borough Council : Gentlemen,—You are, on the signed requisition of three members of the Council, requested to attend a special meeting of the Masterton Borough Council to be held at the Council Chambers, Chapel street, Masterton, on Monday next, the 14th inst., at 7.30 o'clock in the evening for the transaction of the following business : To consider the water rate demands issued pursuant to rate made on the Bth inst, and to take such steos thereon as may be deemed necessary. Yesterday Cr J. C. Ewington handed in a notice of motion, signed by himself and Cr J. Elliott, for discussion at next meeting of the Council:—Councillors Ewington and Elliott will move—"That the rate demands sent out for the water rate just struck, be withdrawn by advertisement, with a view of making a new demand on the same ba"is as last year, as was intended when the rate was struck." Cr Ewington states that his motion being specified as for "next" Council meeting, should be brought before Monday night's meeting for discussion. Jt is on the agenda paper for Tuesday's meeting.
