Mrs G. Greathead, of Carterton, is seriously ill, and her condition is causing her relatives considerable anxiety. Mr Hugh Russell, of Masterton, has been appointed assistant cheesemaker at the Kaupokonui Factory (Taranaki), for which position he will leave in a few days. Mr Alex. Farmer, late Sergt.Major of the Eketahuna Mounted Rifles, was, on Thursday evening, elected Second Lieutenant of the Company. The deitb occurred at Hillside, Maninbordugh, on Thursday night, of Misa Barbara McLeod, youngest daughter of Mr W. McLeod, an old resident of Martinborou?n. A Napier Press Association telegram states that a very old colonist, Mrs Elizabeth Hallett, has died at Taradale, aged 97. The deceased arrive! in 1842, and with her husband passed through the trying times of the pioneers. Mr F. H. Wood, at one time a resident of Masterton, arrived back in New Zealand an Thursday by, the lonic after a trip round the globe. | He will spend a few days in Featherston before returning to his home at Tauranga. Mr A. F. Harding, captain of the British football team, is not accompanying the other members of the combination on their Homeward journey. It is his intention to remain in Australia for some time. The probabilities are.that he will pay a brief visit to the Dominion. Mrs Birss, who is leaving Masterton today, was entertained at afternoon tea at Mrs J. W. Cochrane's residence yesterday afternoon and presented by her friends with a handsome silver cake basket. Songs were sing by Mrs Te Tau, Misa Denham and Mrs E. Ashto .
