CHARGES OF THEFT.
By Telegraph—Press Association. • DANNEVIRKE, September 11. _ To-day a young man named William Riehter, a recent arrival from Germany, was before the Court charged with theft of jewellery, breaking and entering and theft of a bicycle on July 4th. He stole a bicycle at Masterton, rode through to Dnnnevirke and threw the machine in a stream. He visited the residence of W. F. Knight on July 9th, and asked for arid was supplied with food On leaving he saw a window open and went in and stole a jewel case, the property of Mrs Williams. He went on to Napier, and on returning on August sth he again entered the house, but was discovered and decamped without anything. The robbery was a mystery, but Riehter was subsequently arrested in Wellington for theft of a bicycle and jewels and a ring identified as that of Mrs Williams was found in the lining of his coat. He seated that he had thrown the other jewellery in a river near Napier. He pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. For the theft of the bike at' Mauerton he received three months. Riehter was also committed for sentence at Woodville on Wednesday for theft at Papatawa.
