CARLTON CRICKET CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING

The sixth annual meeting of the Carlton Cricket Club was held in.the Occidental Hotel last evening. There was a good attendance of members, and Mr T. Hoar presided. The annual report stated inter alia: In presenting the sixth annual report and balance-sheet, your Committee have much pleasure in stating that the Club, after meeting all liabilities, has a substantial credic balance. The total liability last season amounted to £2B 15s Id, all of which has been paid, leaving the Club free of debt and a credit balance of £7 Is. Your Committee are pleased to know that members have recognised the fact that cricket cannot be carried on successfully without funds, and congratulate the Club on having such a strong financial membership. The season of 1907-8 was a most succes3tul one, your Club having won the Masterton Thursday Championship, besides entering two teams for the Wairarapa Cricket Association's Championship competitions, thus agisting materially to foster local cricket. The Club is to be congratulate! on tieing with Carterton for second place. Mr H. C. Swan is to be congratulated on having won the bowling average for the tijpso'?, his average bain;* five runs per wicket. Mr W. Piatt's trophy, a good medal, for best improved junior who hn-i not -A\m a L'jphy, was Win by Mr L. Boyd. Your Committee recommend that all senior ,membeis subscriptions this year b ■! raised to 20s. This will be found necessary if the Club is to hold it 3 position with other senior grade clubs of the Wairarapa, and wo would ask you to give this matter serious consideration. The annual social, which was held on the 18th June, in the Foresters' Hall, was most enjoyable and financially successful, there being a credit balance of £5 18s. The thanks of the Club are due to the splendid committee of ladies, to whom is the credit of the function being such a pronounced success. Your Committee also desire a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to the Club's patron, president, and vice-presidents for monetary donations. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the Chairman congratulated the Club on the splendid position it had attained, and trusted that the Club would be more successful in the coming season, and that both the Saturday and Thursday Championships would be won by the Cub. Votes of thanks were accorded to donors of last year's trophies; also to Mr A. Hathaway, the retiring president, whose resignation was accepted with regret. Messrs A. Styles, F. Richards and R. Carley weie elected members of the Club. The elcctim of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr J. O'Meara; President, Mr VV. Piatt; VicePresidents Messrs A. C. Major, J. M. Coradine, H. Douglas, Jas. Elliott, J. Welch, junr., and D. Nicholson; Captain. Mr E. Welch; Vice-Captain, Mr R. Moss; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr F. P. Welch; General Committee, Messrs Collinge, Styles, Owen, Roberts, Ogier, Boyd, Aymes, and officers ex officio; Match Committee, Messrs Collinge, Moss and Ogier; Delegates to Thursday Association, Messrs F. Welch and S. Aymes; Delegates to Wairarapa Cricket Association, Messrs H. Swan, and F. P. Welch; Delegates to Masterton Cricket Council, Messrs F. Welch and E. Collinge. The annual subscription was fixed at 15s for senior members and 10s for juniors under 18. Trophies were promised by the following : —Mr J. O'Meara, a bat to the best average for batting for the coming season; Mr A. R. Maltby, a gold medal. The President donated a guinea to the funds of the Club, A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the meeting.
