CARTERTON.

(Own Correspondent). Discoursing from the pulpit of St. Mark's Church on Sunday evening, the Rev. H. T. Stealey, M.A., Principal of the Clareville Maori College, Etated that at the present time there were 3,200 Anglican Clergymen labouring in the British Empire. In New Zealand, the Church has made wonderful progress since its constitution, there being at the present time eight Bishoprics. The Anglican Church in New Zealand was making steady and sound progress, both numeiically and financially, judging by the fact that a number of clergymen from the Old Country were being sent out to labour in the Dominion. In Canada, stated Mr Stealey, the number of Bishoprics at the present time, numbered twelve. Matters in connection with the local Option Poll at the coming election, have been rather quiet here, up tc the present. Miss Anderson Hughes (under the auspices of the New Zealand Alliance) is to give an address on No-license in the Victoria Hall on Wednesday evening next, and already local enthusiasts in the Prohibition movement are preparing for the visit of Miss Hughes, who, it is stated, is a quiet but impressive speaker. No doubt her address will awaken those who are interested in the movement, so that they might make due preparation for the coming battle.
