The Parliamentary visitors to the Liberal celebration at Carterton were interviewed by the stewards of the Taratahi Racing Club on the course yesterday morning, the visitors having been invited there to received a deputation in reference to the Club being granted an additional meeting, making two per year. Mr Deller, in laying before the visitors the claims of the district to the concession asked, said the Club possessed one hundred acres, which cost the Club £25 per acre, a total cost of £2,525, while the grandstand, erected two or three years ago, cost £1,400. The general improvements, including the price of the caretaker's house, cost approximately £I,OOO. This meant that the Club had disbursed a total of £4,825. The liabilities of the Club were only £1,900, and the bank overdraft £357, which left the Club with a substantial balance in assets. The Club had, last meeting, increased the stakes to £1,609, and in spite of a wet day last year, the net profit was £BSO. The Hon. Carroll said, in reply, that he regarded the course as a very fine one, and he would use his utmost endeavours with the Racing Conference to have the request of the Club acceded to. The Hon. Miller was also favourably impressed with the facts laid before them, and said that th most obvious way out rf the difficulty regarding a permit was for the Ministry to grant an additional number — Eay ten. This course would be preferable to taking away a permit from another club. Messrs Witty and McKenzie also spoke favourably to the granting of the request. After the speeches, refreshments, provided by the. Club, were partaken of in the grandstand booth, toasts being honoured and short speeches made. The party then left for Featherstun by the 10.30 train.
