"HOME RULE" FOR IRELAND.
A LIVELY MEETING. Received September 7, 11.47 p.m. LONDON,. September 6. Prior to the United Irish League meeting at Newcastle, West County, Limerick, where considerable friction exists between the rural and urban tenants in the Earl of Devon's estate over the imoending sale, a body of men from Tommafullan, stating that Mr William ,o'Brien disapproved of the gathering, demolished the platform. Mr T. M. Kettle, M.P., was thrown down and cut about the face and kicked. Mr S. L. Gwynne, M.P., was also assaulted. The police arrived and enabled the meeting to proceed. Mr Kettle, in the course of his speech, half doubted the fitness of the people for Home Rule. He wanted Home Rule to be a rule of reason and argument.
