CONTINUOUS TELEPHONIC SERVICE.
The Masterton Telephone Exchange will be continuously open fiom this morning. The decision of the Department to effect this manifest improvment in the telephrnic service appears to have had a rather alarming effect upon one cr two of the very aged in the community, but the great majority of the public, and especially subscribers to the Exchange, will be pleased to realise that the agitation for the service mentioned has been successful. Indeed, a very large percentage of the subscribers signed a petition in favour of the proposal. The slight extra cost involved will, I we feel sure, be very gladly paid I when it is compared with the great improvement in the service. Among those who took a leading part in securing a complete —instead of a partial—service, the name of Mr J. D. Cruickshank should be mentioned. That gentleman worked most assiduously and successfully for the continuous service.
