CASTLEPOINT COUNTY.
A meeting of the Council was held , on Saturday last, all the members being present. Mr R. J. Barton advised that the road from the station to the beach was dangerous for traffic. Mr H. Belliss wrote offering £2 for the remains of the old whare on the road near to his section. The Lands Department advised ' thHtt he old road to Castlepoint from Whakataki was closed by proclamation, and applied for the name of the person in whom the land should ve3t. j The Masterton County clerk ap- i plied for two years' road maintenance of main road, being l-16th of the ( total expenditure, amounting to £lO7 | 10s lOd. The Treasury advised the payment j of £SOO subsidy on rates for the past year. The Postmistress in Tinui wrote asking that the Council would withdraw their objection to a Saturday , half-holiday being granted to the Post j Office, and she would keep the office j optn en the days when the Council j meet for business. i The Government Printer, re Stat- | utes of New Zealand, at £lO 10s and I £l2 12s. j The Masterton County Clark, with \ agreement between the two Counties j in connection with the bridge over 1 the Taueru at Meldrum. The Treasury, stating that the j loan for the Whakataki Castlepoint j Knad was available for expenditure, j Mr J. Barton replied stating that \ ha wojld make a survey of the de- , viation in the road at Annedale j Station. J The Clerk was authorised to order j from the Government .Printer the Statutes required by the Council. That, in reply to the Postmistress j at Tinui, the Council Saturday j half-holiday as being very inconvenient, but would have no objection to offer if a half-holiday were given on Thursday, when other business premises are closed. It was resolved to accept Mr Belliss's offer of £2 for the remains j of the roadman's cottage in Lower Mangapakeha, provide I it was re- j moved within fourteen clays. Cr Langdon applied for a twa-horse t.iam, plough and scoop, and other tools for the use of the River Board, to open new channels for the river, as the vvrlc was of considerable importance to the road in t;.u vicinity. This was granted. Tha Chairman and Cr Bennett were appointed to sign the contract with j Mr Cameron for the j Whakataki- ; Cistlepoint Road, and plac3 the saal of the Council on the agreement. The Chairman and Cr Innes were appointed to interview the owners of property where deviations had been mada in the survey of the Whakataki Valley Road, with a view to making a definite arrangement | n regard o fencing, etc., where the Council A to levy tie ge.iaral rate as proposed at last meeting was lost. Chairman and Crs Langdon and Richardson voting for it, and Crs Ryder, Innes, Foreman and Bennett against. Cr Kyder thei moved, and Cr Innes seconded, that a general rate of seven farmings in the £ be levied for the current year. This was earned by four votes, and three against. i It was decided to get as much stone * broken for road metal at the Tinui , bridge, and on Mrs Clemison's pro- I percy as possible, to be ready for carting when the roads are fit, and that information be obtained in respect to the cost per mile of a light tramway. Tne Treasurer's report was read and considered. Accounts amounting to £342 0s Id were passed. ,
