MANAWATU TOURNAMENT. BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. PALMERSTON N., September 4. The Manawatu Golf Tournament was finished to-day, when there was a keen finish for the championship between Ken Duncan (Wellington) and A. Barraud, who has been putting i:.» records here fi;r some time past. Neither did any record-break-ing, the wind affected them. The scores 86. JBarraul jumped away with a strong lead, bting 3 up at the fourth hole, win. ing the fix-st, third and fourth. Duncan, however, gradually wore his (.pponer.t down. At the fifteenth he not a lucky put in, and won ths hc\., leaving tiarraud wif.h a lead of n.ly - ;e. The W tiling lonian drew level a the sixteenth, ar.d the next two hoi * were halved, making the game Ml , square at the last hole. In the play off a f . the nineteenth hole Duncan unfortunately topped his drive, but made a splendid recovery. The local mm, however, beat him, anc) thus won t, u e championship. The ladies' championship was vvcil by Mrs Bevuan (of Otaki) from Miss Una Williams (Wellington). The ladies' teams match resulted in a tie between the Wanderers and Otaki, the former winning in the play off. The Wanderers team consisted of Misses Beatson (Hastings), Simpson and Stafford (Wei ington), Biddeley (Kimbolto:;). Mis.} Wood W(]n the ladie3* stroke handicap and Mr McHardy and L. A. Abraham the four-ball mutch. There were large entries, and the meeting was a great success. Lady Plunket presented the prizes at a big gathering on the course.
