MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
P The monthly meeting of the Mailriceville County Council was held on Saturday last; There were presenters Kumrner (chairman), Jackson, Heckler, Wall, Perry, and Dagg. The District Railway Engineer, in reply to the Council's request, wrote stating that no boulders could be Fupplied at present. Messrs Busst and Co., sawmillers, applied for permission to erecting staging for loading their waggon cm Mount Bruce Road. In reply to the Council's request the Commissioner of Crown Lands consented to a large totara tree standing between the Makakahi River and Kaiparoro Road being removed and cut up for culvert timber, Mr D. Christie wrote stating that th'J small sum allocated for repairs on Man?atainoka Valley Road had be mi found insufficient. Mr M. Kennedy drew attention to a snsli section of the Wangaehu Road which was at present in a very muddy condition, and asked that the furmition be rounded up, offering to supply a horse and cart to assist. It was resolved to attend to the road later on. The Sanitary Inspector reported tw) cases of scarlet fever. In one cu 3 the child had 'recovered, and no i'i-p3:'tion had resulted, as the case had been properly isolated. In the other, the child had been removed to Masterton. With these exceptions "thd public health is good. Some defects in drainage which he pointed out in a previous report were now being remedied. Orders had been given for improvements in a dwelling house hardly fit for human habitation. It was resolved, after a long discussion, to rescind the resolution piS33d at the previous meeting, striking a general rate nf seveneighths of a penny, and substitute a gjneral rata of tarae-farthings instead. It was resolved that Messrs Busst and Co. and D. McDonald, sawmiller3, be notified that no erection of at.y kind can be allowed on the road, neither must timber be stacked thereon. The Clerk was instructed to notify' Mi* R. Dickson that he must prevent his sheep and cattle from strayin ; and damaging the roads, and if the offence continues he will be prosecuted. Cheques amounting to £215 2s 3d ware pissad for payment.
