A Press Association message from 5 Hamilton states that Mr R. JohnPaull, proprietor of the "Waikato , Time*." and formerly of the "L.vttelton Times" staff, died from heart r failure yesterday morning, after a. short illness. i •Mr Alex. _ Davidson, one of the early Napier" settlers, died last Monday, at the age of 74 years. Deceased whs a native of Scotland, heand Mr Andrew Carnegie, the million- . aire, beine: schoolboys together in old • Dunfermline. Mr Davidson went outto Australia as a young man, and in' 1860 proceeded to Napier, where subseineitly'he became a prominent fig< - ure in business. ' t Mr D. ,E. Parton, whu for thepast twelve years has been a member of the Masterton Cricket Club,. ' was last evening presented with a' hanl9ome silver entree dish, as a\ mark of esteem. The presentationwas made by Mr W. H. L. Galwey (President of the Club), who ref°rrel to the excellent service Mr Parton had rendered the Club both as a plaver and as secretary. The loss to the Club was a big ona, but members were please 3 to hear that Mr Parton> removal to Taihape meant vm; I '-- deserved promotion. . He wTsheaMr Partun, on behalf of the Club, every success in the future. Messrs C. Perry and W. Redmond also made eulogistic reference to Mr Parton's services to the Club. .
