SIGNAL TO THE WILLESDEN
Received September 1, 9.20 am. SYDNEY, September 1. The Marama which sailed yesterday, was instructed to call at the Phoenix grouo to enquire as to the recent signals made to the steamer Willesden.
The Willesden reported that after she had passed Sydney island, one of the Phoenix group, on the 12th August, signals were made from the shore. Had they been made earlier, the vessel would have enquired, but, being short of coal, she could not return. Th.3 theory at Sydney was that the signals may have had some connection with the missing steamer Aeon, but Messrs Lever Brothers, who lease island, stated _ that their employees were in the habit of signalling: vessels in order to obtain newspapers.
NORTHERN TERRITORY
OFFER FROM A SYNDICATE. Received September 1, 9.26 a.m. ADELAIDE, September 1. An effer on behalf of a syndicate ot English and German capitalists has been made to the State Government to take over the Northern Territory on the same terms as offered by the Commonwealth.

Received September 2, 1.2 a.m. SYDNEY, September 1. The Hawea will land a portion of her cargo, and will need a new tail shaft.
