THE IMPORTANCE OF EXPORT TRADE.

"The racetit commercial crisis has taught American manufacturers the importance of the export trade," says the International Board of Trade. New York, in a letter to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, "and led to the adoption among them of a decided change of business policy—looking toward the fostering and protection of any foreign commerce they now have or can obtain in the future." The Board goes on to say that the Chamber is undoubtedly familiar with American manufacturers' practice in the past of ignoring export business when times were prosperous in the States, and with the resultant discouragement of foreign merchants. It is now proposed to solicit and build up a permanent export business, to receive at all times the minute care and attention bestowed upon domestic trade, and to extend every courtesy and facility to enquiries for American products from abroad. The Board asks the co-operation of the Wellington Chamber in bringing before American manufacturers any demands for their products in New Zealand, and in return it promises that its resources will always be at the service of the merchants of the Dominion seeking an American market for their goods.
