Lambs Canterbury, medium, 5 5-16 d. Beef—Fores, 3 5-16 d; hinds, 4§d. River Plate beef—Same price. Hemp—market steady and prices unchanged. Rabbits—Market firm and prices unchanged.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
f The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, 29th August, 1908: — The mutton market ia dull, except for prime light weights. North Island mutton id quoted as follows: Lightweights, 3Jd; heavy weights, 3gJ per lb; Canterbury, light wtights, 4|d per lb, nominal. The lamb market is slightly weaker, with less demand. Supplies of home-grown lambs are heavy, and are lowering the prices of New Zealand lambs. Canterbury brands are quoted at 5Jd, and other than Canterbury at 5Jd per lb. The beef market is firm. Supply is running short, but high prices are restricting business in New Zealand biof. Hind-quarters are quoted at 4}d; fore-quarters, at 3|d per" lb. The butter market is quiet, with little doing, but good feeling prevails. The stock of New Zealand butter is exhausted. Danish is quoted at 120s; Canadian, 115 a; Siberian, 103s per cwt. The cheese market is steady. There is', not much demand, but prices are firm." The stocic of New Zealand cheese is exhausted. Canadian is quoted at, 61s per cwt. The hemp market is speculativs, but quiet. There is little doing, but good feeling prevails. The following are the current quotations:-Good fair grade on spot, £26 15s; fair grade on spot, ,£23; fair current Manila on spot, £23 10s; October to December shipments are quoted as follow: Good fair grade, £26 10s; fair grade, £22 10s; fair current Manila, £23 10a. Last week's output from Manila amounted to 24,000 bales. The wool market is staady, with an improved demand. The following are the current quotations for Bradford Tops: —36's low crossbreds lOd, 40's ditto lOjjd, 44' a medium ditto Hid, 50's halfbreds Is B.?d, 56's quarter-breds Is G;];d, 60's merinos Is lid. The hop market is very quiet. Bayers are not keen to do business in cocksfoot seed.
