A SERIOUS OFFENCE.
By Telegraph--Press Association CHKTSTCHURCH, Autrust 31. "Dr." John Pearson, found guilty by a common jury of indecent assault, and acquitted on y a charge of illegally using an instrument, was brought up for sentence to-day, the case having been reserved by Mr Justice Denniston for legal argument. Before sentence was passed the police said that accused's statement that he was a registered practitioner of Sydney was quite untrue. The New South Wales police said he was unregistered, and. further, that he was a well-known abortionist. He had deserted his wife and family, been convicted of theft in New Zealand, and had lived with a woman who had received a four years' sentence for abortion. His Hono- sentenced Pearson to six months' imprisonment.
