THE UNITED STATES FLEET.
j» • ARRIVAL IN MELBOURNE
Received August 29, 8.7 p.m. MELBOURNE, August 29. The reception of the fleet will be a re-production of the scenes ut enthusiasm witnessed at Auckland and Sydney. During the week visitors poured into the city. Before daybreak people began to stream out towards the Bay, and by 11 o'clock, when the Connecticut led the warships through Port Phillip Heads the bulk of Meloourne residents segregated along the foreshore or on board the myriad of craft which covered the Bay. The White Fleet was greeted with unbounded enthusiasm. The usual salutes were fired. During the afternoon Admiral Sperry landed at St. Kilda Pier and paid an official visit to the Governor and then returned aboard the flagship.
