THE FLOODING OF AUGUSTA

LONDON, August 28. Through flooding of the city, caused by the bursting of the canal, there are 20,000 persons homeless in Augudta, Georgia. Many are sleeping in trees. Received August 30, 4.20 p.m. NEW YORK, August 29 Twenty bodies have been recovered in connection with the Hoods at Augusta. The captain of a steamer states that he saw twenty-five bodies floating in the river—mostly negroes. The damage amounts to half a mil lion sterling. The floods are subsiding.
