A COLLISION.
STEAMER AND TUG DAMAGED. Received August 28, 6.30 p.m. SYDNEY, August 28. A collision occurred off North Head early this morning. The A.U.S.N, steamer Suva, bound for Newcastle, collided with the Hero, inward boupd. Both vessels were badly damaged. The Suva was sfruck on the port fide, ar.d a hole 6 feet in length and 18 inches in depth was cut just below the deck level. Several plates below the water line were damaged and the rivets started. The pumps kept the heavy inrush of water down till she reached the wharf. The Hero was crippled and towed up the harbour in the afternoon. Received August 29, 12 40 a.n\ SYDNEY, August 28. The Hero's condition show 3 the force uf the impact.,, Her stern is broken, and her boiler shifted from position The steampipe connections have been carried away, and the forepart flooded. She was disabled. Luckily nore of U.osr- \ bonrd v/ere injured by the escaping stemi. Both vessels arc in dock. Four of j the Suva's plates need renewing.
