A SLANDER CASE.
*• By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 26. A claim of £250 damages for alleged slander wa? made in the Supreme Court this afternoon, before Mr Justice Cooper and a jury of four, by Annie Stewart, wife of Thomas Stewart, labourer, of Petone, against Mere Isherwood, wife of Jeremiah Isherwood, of Lower Hutt. The claim was in respect of words alleged to have been spoken to the plaintiff by the defendant at Petone on March 23rd, 1908. The defence was that iho words were not spoken as alleged, and that they, were not susceptible to the defamatory meaning alleged. Defendant also denied that plaintiff had suffered any injury. The jury awarded £lsoo damages.
