GAINED BY IMMIGRATION.

By immigration New Zealand gained 677 persons during July. The total arrivals were 2,941 and the departures were 2,264. As usual males predominated in the lists of new-comers, but bachelors who may be living in hopes of matrimony have the comfort that men were greatly in the majority in the exodus. The net result is that the credit-balance of 677 includes 326 men and boys, and 351 women and girls. For July last year the departures (2,119) exceeded the arrivals (1,908) by 211. During the month and all succeeding months till the approach of winter begins to drive tourists abroad, the numbers of persons who step ashore in New Zealand should substantially surpass the figures for the outward bound.
