WOODLANDS HUNT CLUB.

(From Our Own Corraspondent). A special general meeting of the Woodlands Hunt Club was held on Saturday afternoon in the Commercial Hotel, the master (Mr J. Sweeney) occupying the chair, and about thirty other members being present. A balance-sheet was submitted, ;and in speaking to it the Chairman pointed out that the recent race meeting, which had at first promised to <be an enormous success had unfortunately, through very adverse circumstances, proved the reverse, and -through this cause, and also owing to ■•their being a number of outstanding s subscriptions, the club was in debt. 'The position of the Club was that ■they had to pay these debts, and although the assets were good enough for that purpose, it meant one or two • courses —viz., either as sports they . must put their hands in their pockets, or realise on their assets, which •meant selling the hounds. Personally, srather than see the hounds go, he v • pay the money owing himself. It was decided to ask the members to voluntarily contribute to'.wards wiping out the deficit, Mr Geo. Bnttomley leading off by handing in his cheque for his winnings on Shellfish, Mr Weston donating his ■ secretarial fee, and the others doriatting various sums, resulting in something over £3O being subscribed in jfilie mom. U The Chairman said that the result <>f his appeal was highly gratifying and satisfactory and he wi.-:hed to •thank them all for the sportsmanlike v/ay they had risen to the oicasion. It was the last time he would appear before them as chairman in an official capacity, and as the Club was now assured of its position if they would pull well together, he hoped that they would have many more prosperous a;id enjoyable seasons before them. The Palmerston North branch, which had been opened during the season, had been of great assistance to the Club, and hearty thanks were due to Messrs J. .YL Buick and Mitchell for the valuable services they had : rendered in this respect. Hearty votes of thanks to the retiring chairman, the members of the Palmerston Korth branch (Messrs N. Avery and Buchanan) for the services they had rendered the Club, Messrs Ulic Shannon, G. L. HawleyD»ew, arid Swainson for their assistance at the recent meeting, and the members of the concluded the ) meeting.
