FIRE AT TEMUKA.
FOUR SHOPS DESTROYED.
BY TELEOSAI'H —I'EESS ASSOCIATION. TIMAKU, August 24. Another destructive fire occurred at Temuka at 2.15 o'clock yesterday morning, when four shops were destroyed. Three belonged to Dr Hayes; the other one to Mr T. Edwards. All were wooden buildings. The fire ran through them very quickly. The origin of the fire is a mystery. Dr Hayes is a heavy loser. He had only £SO insurance on each of hia three shops, with the Norwich Union Company. Mr Edwards is also a heavy loser. His shop was insured for £2OO in the Manchester Office. The tenants also are all losers by the fire, their insurances being :—W. H. Carl (chemist), £4OO in the Phoenix; Jacobs (fancy goods), £2OO in the Standard'; C. Vincent (saddler), £IOO in the South British; A. Prosser' (bootmaker), * £4OO in the State Office. The loss of the tenants is estimated at££6so in the aggregate. During the past eighteen months thirteen business places have been destroyed by fire in Temuka.
