LATE FOOTBALL.
By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, August 25. The subject of professionalism came before the Otago Rugby Union to-night, by reason of a letter being received fro:n a gentleman who threatened if the committee did not deal with the matter he would take steps to call a meeting of delegates of the clubs in order to run local football on proper lines, under the direction of a South Island Union. Considerable discussion was evoked on the matter, being unanimous to the extent that an endeavour should be made to meet the problem in the direction of improving the existing game from a spectator's and player's point of view. The following motion was passed—"That in the opinion of this committee, it is desirable that a special general meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union should be convened to discuss the question of proposed improvements to Rugby football, and that the necessary steps be taken by this committee to secure the co-oper-ation of two other affiliated unions in having a meeting called."
