SULTAN BARELY ESCAPES WITH HIS LIFE.
Received August 24, 10.25 p.m. MOROCCO, August 24. Abdul Aziz barely escaped with his life. He has arrived at Saitat, and will proceed tu Casablanca and thence to Syria to await a change of circumstances enabling him to return to Morocco. It is understood that Mulai Hafid will allow him a pension and a place of residence. Mulai Hafid has been proclaimed Sultan at Tangier amid great enthusiasm. No officials will be changed. He has also bsen proclaimed at several coast towns LONDON, August 24. The Tangier correspodent of "The Times" says that there has been too much tendency to contrast the Sultans as representing reform and reaction respectively. The actual personality of the Sultan is unimporttant. Mulai Hafid will probably prove to be as amenable to loans as his brother.
A cablegram yesterday morning stated that Mulai Hafid's forces had inflicted a crushing defeat upon the troops of the Sultan Abdul Aziz.
