ATTEMPTED SMUGGLING.
A HEAVY FINE. Received August 21, 11.40 p.m. NEW YORK, August 21. Mrs Jack Gardener, a society leadar at Boston. attempted to smuggle into America .€IB,OOO worth of art objects alleging that they were goods used in Europe. Upon detection she was fined =£Bo,ooo (sic), and compelled to pay duty amounting to £6,000. The money was immediately paid.
