THE WHAREAMA FISHERIES.
Several letters were received at yesterday's meeting of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce in reference to the opening of a,road through to the Whareama river mouth. Mr A W. Hogg, M.P., wrote stating that he had seen the Under-Secretary for Lands on the subject, and that officer assured the writer that the matter was under review, but it was advisable in the first instance to arrange it possible with the native owners for the purchasing of the reserve, and that negotiations with that object were proceeding. Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, M.P., also wrote stating that in view of the County Council's attitude he would at once move in the matter by means of application to the Minister. Thu.Hon. J. A. Millar, writing in reference to the same subject, said he was in communication with the Roads Department with a view of ascertaining whether that Department could arrange for the taking of the necessary road. The meeting expressed satisfaction at the progress of events.
