SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS.

SUCCESS OF AN AUSTRALIAN. Received August 20, 5.45 a.m. LONDON, August 19. Frank E. Beaurepaire, the Australian distance champion, won the mile championship of the North Sea, in 2o minutes 47 seconds. He also won the 200 metres international scratch race. Both races were decided at Ostend. In the thousand metres championship of Belgium, over a straight course, at Antwerp, Beaurepaiie won in 15min 9sec, and he was also first in themile sea race, decided at Blankenbergs. T. S. Battersby, the Wigan champion, was second in each race. Of the five championship events in which he competed in England recently, Beaurepaire, who is only a lad, won four, and filled third place in the fifth. On July 12th he secured first place in the half-mile, which he covered in 12min 44sec. Several prominent champions did not participate in the 220 yds race, which was held on July 28th, and was won by Beaurepaire in 2min 37sec. In the 500 yds contest on July 30th, the Australian was defeated by Taylor and Battersby, in Gmin 14sec. In the mile championship on August sth, Beaurepaire turned the tables on Taylor and Battarsb.', winning by 15 yards. On August 10th he' won the 440 yds salt water cham pionship of England in 4min 5y 2-5 sec, beating Battersby.
