A FINE DAIRY COW.

Our New Plymo.jth correspondent informs us (days to2 Auckland "Herald") that at a rece.it test, conducted under the auspices of the Agricultural and Pastoral Asso nation, Messrs Griffiths and Corawalls' Jersey cow Granny's Girl gave the following results:—July 13th, night, 17.051b; July 14th, morning, 24.91b; July 14th, night, 20.41b; July 15th, morning, 25.251b; total, 87.61b, thus making an average daily weight of 43.81b of milk. Mr Rutherford has reported that the milk tssted exactly six per cent, of fat. The two days' milk therefore contained ' 5.251b of butter-fat. In other words, the yield is equivalent to 18.391b of butterfat, or 21.461b of churned butter for a week. Granny's Girl has been grazed and rugged in the ordinary way, and not housed at all. except at milking times. When those points are taken into consideration, together with the fact that the weather has been so cold, that there is little nourishment in the grass, and Granny's Girl has only been fed a ration of hay and about lib of Lran a;id lib of crushed oats at each milking, tne result is a wonderful one. Bred by Mr F. W. Cornwall, she is descended from a rich butter strain, being by Jersey Boy out of the grand old cow Granny. In addition to giving such excellent records as a milker, Granny's Girl is also a typical specimen of what is nnw generally admitted to be one of the most popular breeds of dairy cattle. It will be remembered that Granny's Girl produced during twtlve months ef her last milking period the remarkable record of 6751b of butter fat.
