WIDENING KURIPUNI STREET.
Much as it is desirable to push on the work of widening Kuripuni Street, we belitve, with Cr Ewinglon, that it would be far preferable to forego the preparation of the road ita.d!f for a later period so long as n chain road is made when the Council does undertake the work. It is very undesirable to have to go over the same ground twice, and eventually the chain road must coma. It was argued, somewhat ingeniously, that "Kuripuni Street led to nowhere," but the Borough has many streets leading to nowhere in particular. A chain of highway is none too much. The Council has about £501) in hand to expend on widening Kuripuni Street, and if tfiis can be made to cover the cost of everything but making the i>ew portion of road, thi3 latter work can be done out of revenue as time gees on. The present road would [amply suffice until the Council were ready to complete the work.
