SYDNEY READY. Received August 18, 9.40 a.m. SYDNEY, August 18 The city is filling with country and inter-State visitors. Thousands are arriving daily. Excepting for detail work, the Reception Committee report that everything is readj for the arrival of the fleet. The weather is bright, but cold. There is snow on the highlands. The Sydney programme, for the reception of the American fleet is as follows: Thursday, August 20fch—Morning: 11.30 a.m. —Arrival of the fleet at Port Jackson Heads. Aquatic demonstration. Afternoon: American fleet proceeds to moorings. American admirals and others pay official visits to the Governor-General and the State Governor, which visits are returned. Evening: The Governor-General's dinner. Friday.—Morning: Official landing of the American Admiral and stair at Farm Cove. Landing of American officers, sailors and marines at Farm Cove and Woolloomooloo Bay. Procession through the city ot the Go-

vernor-General and staff, the State. Governor and staff, the Admiral and staff, the Lieutenant-Governor, tl e Prime Minister and colleagues, the Lord Mayor of Sydney and the town clerk, the American admirals and staffs, and the officers, sailors and marines of the American fleet. Afternoon: Public reception of the admirals, staffs and officers, sailors

and marines of the American fleet at the Domain. Entertainment of the American officers, sailors and marines at luncheon at Mrs Macquarie's Point. Evening: Official dinner by the State Government. The Commonwealth Government entertains the American officers, sailors and marines at the theatres. Illumination of the public buildings. Saturday.—Morning: Railway excursions provided by the State Gcvernent. Afternoon : The Governor's garden party. Football and baseball matches. Fire brigades' demonstration. Evening: The Admiral's dinner. Fireworks display from the varicus points in the harbour, -arranged ly the State Government. Venetian carnival on the harbour. Illuminations of buildings, etc. Sunday.—Entertainment of the officers and men by the Roman Catholic (details not yet settled). Monday. Morning: Review in Centennial Park, comprising the British navy, the American navy, naval and military forces of South Wales cadets. Aftern on: Luncheon for the American navy at the Agricultural Society's Groui a. March to Hyde Park of the naval slid military forces of New South Wales. March through the city of mounted troops. Evening: "Continental" in the Domain, provided by the State Government. Jlluminatijn of buildings. Tuesday.—Morning and Afterncon: Gymkhana at the Royal Agriculiural Society's Ground, including nav* and military sports, sheep-shearirg, woQdchopping, buckjumping, btomerang throwing, sheep-dog trials, etc. Evening: Lord Mayor's receptior. Commonwealth Government' entertains American offi ers, sailors, and marines at the theatres. Illumination of buildings. Wednesday. Morning. Public schools' demonstration. Aftermon: ■ Regatta. Evening: No function. "PEACE IN THE PACIFIC." Received August 18, 8.40 a.m. LONDON, August 17. The "Spectator" says the cruise of the United States Navy ought to mean peace in the Pacific, if mis-chief-makers are not allowed to represent the navy as a weapon to be used in race-feud between Englishspeaking peoples and Asiatics.

FLEET TO VISIT ITALY. Received August IS, 8.40 a.m. LONDON, August 17. Washington telegrams state that part of the United States Fleet will visit Genoa and Naples, and possibly Leghorn and Palermo.
