OBITUARY.
IRA D. SANKEY, Received August 16, 4.30 p.m. NEW YORK, August 15. The death is announced of Mr Ira D. Sankey, the American evangelist. Mr Ira David Sankey, the wellknown evangelist, was born at Edinburgh, Lawrence, do., Pa., on September 2dth, 1840, and was for 29 years associated with th 3 late Dwight L. Moody. He was the compiler of Sacred Songs and Soloa, The Christian Choir, etc., and composed many of the tunes in the Moody and Sankey Gospel Hymns, including "The Ninety and Nine," "When the Mists Have Rolled Away," "Faith is the Victory," "A Shelter in the Time of Storm." Since the death of Mr Mondy the late Mr Sankey had been engaged in lecturing on his favourite theme of Sacred Song and Storv. His compilations of hymns and tunes have had a larger circulation than any books of the kind ever published.
