A MYSTERIOUS EPIDEMIC.
PARALYSIS AMONG MELBOURNE CHILDREN . fifty cases reported. MELBOURNE, August 15. There has been an epidemic of paralysis among children. The ailment is mysterious. The cause is not definitely made out, and the treatment at best has been unsatisfactory. It is believed 'hat about fifty cases have occurred in Melbourne. BRITAIN ANDIGERMANYReceived August 16, 4.15 p.m. LONDON, August 15. The Hon. D. Lloyd-George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, in an interview at Carlsbad, discussed the prospectß of an enttnte with Germany. "The Times", refers to the rumour of his intention' to visit Berlin and the Black Forest residence of Admiral Tirpitz. The newspaper "Spectator" protests against the growing tendency of Ministers to deal in public with matters outside their departments. Received August 16, 4.30 p.m. LONDON, August 15. Sir W E. Goschen, British Ambassador at Vienna, succ eds Sir Frank Lascelles as Ambassador at Berlin.
