WAIRARAPA JUNIORS, v. WELLINGTON JUNIORS. (By Telegraph—Special Reporter). WELLINGTON, August 12. In the Junior match Wellington v. Wairarapa, played this afternoon, the first spell was very even. Wairarapa had the wind in their favour, and took full advantage cf it. On several occasions they narrowly missed scoring, but the defence of the Wellington men was very sound. In the second half the Wairarapa men went to pieces. The spell had not been going more than about ten minutes when from a passing rush among the backs first blood was drawn by Wellington. The try was not converted. From this out the game was siaiply a series Jof tries by the local men. The visitors played pluckily, but the rough passage they had had across from Pictoi began to tell. All attempts to stem the tide was unavailing, the final result being —Wellington 25, Wairarapa nil. Mr Weybourne was referee. Flaws, Ball and Williams played solidly for the losers among the back division. Golder, D. Ross and Sheen showed up most prominently in the forwards. From the good fight put up in the first spell hopes were high that Wairarapa would succeed in putting up a good performance, but the home team made no mistakes in the second spell, and their hacks played really brilliantly. After the match the teams sat down, to dinner at the Masonic Hotel, being 1 entertained by the Wellington Rugby Union, and a pleasant evening was spent. The team has had a very enjoyable tour. The "Marlborough Express" (Blenheim'* made some pointed remarks in its issue of Monday last on the alleged Marlborough junior team that played Wairarapa jqniors on Saturday last, stating that the Marlborough team was composed mainly of seniors. In the course of its remark?, the "Express" says:—"lf the Marlborough reps, against the Wairarapa Juniors had been selected from the junior ranks the result may not have been 12 io G in favour of the local team. . . . 'Well played, Seniors,' was the jocular remark passed by a section of the spectators when the local team did anything good against the Wairarapa Juniors. Evidently everyone did not see through the same spectacles' as the selector. . . . There were at least four Juniors playing against; Wairarapa on Saturday., though with these odds the difference was only 6 points!" The following team will represent ; the Masterton 111, in a match against Star 111. on Saturday : —Simonson, Yates, Simonson, Osman, Johns, Hanley, Wellington, Fly, Rayner, McHattie, Dixon, Billington, Iggul* den, Munn, Dean. The following will represent Red Star lll:—Riddle, Messenger, Hoar. Edwards, Boyd, Mason, Coyle, O'Dowd, Galley, Smith, Treen, Dixon, Harris, Billington, de Lisle, and Miller.
