THE SCHOOL SYLLABUS.
In the proper teaching of historj lies the means of developing the patriotism, good citizenship, and that sense of proportion which New Zealand, aa a community, undoubtedly lacks. Politics quite rightly engross much of our attention, but to understand them properly, to be able to gauge the soundness of theories of reform, a knowledge of the lessons of history is essential. And yet, remarks the Christchurch "Press," the continuous teaching of history in the primary schools i 3 not compulsory.
