A TRYING TIME.
STEAMER SAVED BY USE OF OIL. Received August 10, 10 a.m. SYDNEY. August 10. The steamer Komura has been towed into Newcastle by the steamer Noorebar. She left Brisbane on Tues day night, and shortly afterwards ran into a strong south-easterly gale, with high seas. The steamer,- which was flying light, had a bad time from the jump, and made little headway against the high wind, the mountainous seas beating her almost to a standstill. The gale held through Wednesday and Thursday. At night when off the Solitaries she was found to be drifting. The weather moderated on Friday morning, when an examination disclosed that the steamer had lost three blades of ber propeller. The steamer drifted throughout Friday and Saturday. Oil bag 3 were used with good effect to keep down the tempestuous seas, the gale having again increased. Efforts made to attract a passing steamer and the lighthouse failed. On Saturday night the Noorebar saw the Komura's rockets and came to her assistance.
The captain attributes the safety of his vessel to the use of oil. All on board had an anxious and trying time.
