CASTLEPOINT COUNTY.

The ordinary meeting of the Castlepoint County Council was held on .Saturday last, all the Councillors ■being present. The estimates for the current year were considered and dealt with, and -a general rate of 2Jd in the pound was made over the whole county. .An amendment was proposed that a seven farthing rate be made, but -only two voted for it. A £d rate was then proposed and negatived, and the original proposal was carried. The tenders for the work of forming the road from Whakataki to Castlepoint were opened, and were .considered too high. It was decided ■to reduce the width of the road to thirteen feet, and call for fre3h tenders, to close on August tfth, at noon. Mr Barton agreed to get out fresh plans and specifications in the course ■of a few days. It was resolved to write and ask the Trustees in the Iba Estate to seli :fiv3 acre 3 of land for a roadman's icott:ige, and to remove the two old, ivharea from the road in Manga■"ftw'Mlj'.gL,,.,- - The Road Overseer's report wad Tsad, in which he reported that a I'tiUMibjr of the protective works in the River bad had been •evirried away, and that several other places required attention.
